The Must-Have Items You’ll Need to Pack for Disney World in March

March is a busy month at Walt Disney World. With major crowd sources including Spring Break travelers, the EPCOT Flower and Garden Festival and Easter activities at many Disney World Resort hotels, it's a busy time of year to visit.

It's also a time of year when the Orlando weather can have some dramatic swings (and can be quite different from year-to-year). We have visited every March since the opening of Walt Disney World and in this post/podcast we share our top tips for what to pack and what to wear on your Walt Disney World vacation in March.

What to Pack for a March Disney Vacation

What should you pack and what should you wear for a Walt Disney World vacation in March?

March is a shoulder month, where winter meets spring. At Walt Disney World that means anything from daytime highs in the 60s to the 80s. We have experienced it all over the years, but generally March tends to be a pretty good month for weather. This is Central Florida though, so even day-before forecasts can change on a dime.

Weather Forecast for Walt Disney World: March 2024

No matter when you travel, we always recommend that you check the 7-day weather forecast on the day before you leave for your Walt Disney World vacation. Use a local weather station for this and not a generic weather app or service. We find that the local weather stations have more accurate predictions than the generic weather apps on phones.

The Orlando weather forecast for March 2024 looks like it’s not too bad. Not perfect, but not too bad. Daytime temperatures should be in the mid-70s to low-80s throughout the month of March, with nighttime lows in the upper 50s to low 60s. All in all that is pretty pleasant weather for a Disney vacation and for walking the parks.

However, unlike many years in the past, it's also looking like March 2024 may have a few more chances for rain than is “usual” for this time of year. So we will account for that in our packing and what-to-wear recommendations below.

Know Yourself and Your Family Members

What you wear in March depends a lot on your tolerance for weather. So take into account the tolerances of each family member.

If you can brave the cool mornings (typical at this time of year) in shorts and a t-shirt (when it's upper 50sF or lower 60sF outside), then you will be good to go for the day—because by 11:00 a.m. it is typically quite warm. If you take this approach, you won't have to layer up and carry any extra clothing later in the day when you shed your jacket in a Disney park. So an hour or two of cool tolerance in the morning means you'll be good to go with no extra items to carry later on.

If you don't care to brave the cool mornings, then a light layer will help to take the edge off for the first couple of hours. After that, it can get quite warm, so you'll have to carry your jacket for the rest of the day.

So know your preference (and those of your family members) and you can pack and dress accordingly for Walt Disney World in March.

March 2024 is looking like it will be rainier than usual; so you may want to carry a micro travel umbrella, rain jacket or poncho. Similar to the approach for the cool mornings, if you would rather not carry extra rain gear then your option is to put up with the rain. You will likely dry off fairly quickly if you get wet, so it’s short-term pain for long-term gain. The spring rain is usually not as bad as the summer rain and it's a relatively new occurrence for this time of year, thanks to climate change. Quick drying shorts, shirts, jackets and so on are a great choice at any time of year, including potentially rainy springs like what we expect in March 2024.

How to Style Your Wardrobe for March at Walt Disney World

With the EPCOT Flower and Garden Festival and Easter activities leading the way in March, there are plenty of opportunities to be on-theme with your Disney vacation packing. Whether it’s gardening themed clothing or Easter apparel, you can get in style with one or two items added to your bag.

And let’s not forget about St. Patrick’s Day!

If you happen to be at Walt Disney World on St. Patrick’s Day, it’s a great opportunity to break out your Irish green and shamrocks, with Disney Springs and Disney’s Hollywood Studios being two of the best places to visit for St. Patrick’s Day at Disney World.
